
10,000 mini HP laptops are headed to Fresno, California in the fall purchased by the school district. Fourth graders in Redlands Christian Migrant Association Community School in Immokalee, Florida, are getting XO laptops by the non-profit One Laptop Per Child. South Carolina and Alabama have purchased a large quantity of the XO laptops to put in their schools as well. The growing trend to get technology in the schools is escalating citing pilot programs that proved encouraging. One laptop per two children in elementary showed an increase in collaboration and decrease in cost.

Redlands joins South Carolina's Marion County School District and the Birmingham, Ala., school system in deploying low-cost ($200) XO laptops to students in the United States. Just this week, the Birmingham school board voted to accept the remaining 14,000 pre-purchased XO laptops from the city to give to elementary students after a pilot project with the first 1,000 laptops proved encouraging.
