Technology Helps Build Sense of History and Reduces Gun Violence
School News Nationwide (SNN) is a New York City nonprofit that specializes in Logo of School News Nationwideeducation and community development.  For 16 years they have been involved in youth services, community leadership development, television & radio broadcasting and newspaper publication in many schools and communities. SNN has provided computer labs for schools in low income communities, and designed after-school programs. They also teach literacy, life skills, test preparation, television broadcasting, video production, journalism, and newspaper publishing in several schools.

One of their current projects involves a student produced documentary called “Words of Bonds” in which the students interview holocaust survivors and the descendents of slaves. You can view excerpts at www.wordsofbonds.com.  They recently told us how donated computer helps another of their programs:

From their letter:
The Cristina Foundation has been extremely good to the School News Nationwide, Inc (SNN) organization. We use the tools of journalism, media and technology in teaching our nation's youth to read and write better. We are most grateful to the Cristina Foundation for providing us with computers, ideas and other resources in helping our New York community.

We have also taken our not-for-profit causes internationally. On the Island of Jamaica we are working with more than 450 schools, their Ministry of Education and other not-for-profit groups in the area of education and non violence. Crime has been rampant on this Island where many of our New York immigrants are from. To assist the Jamaican community in education and reducing gun violence, we are working with their schools, the authorities, not-for-profit groups, places of worship and other communities with a program that's called, "A Gun for a Computer". (Anyone who turns in a gun to the authorities receive a computer.. no questions asked).

In this and many other programs, we are providing these services to the community at large. Once again our gratitude goes out to the Cristina Foundation.
