Serving the immigrant community since 1997

Jackson Heights, Queens is a true melting pot of nationalities and cultures. One of the biggest challenges faced by new immigrants is learning the language. By providing a program that offers survival English with facts about the country in which they reside, immigrants and those with limited English proficiency will become a more integral part of their communities and society.

  • Project Abstract

ShebaUSA will teach the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Outlook) to women who have achieved Basic English classes at Sheba, (or elsewhere). In addition to teaching computer skills we will also help women improve English writing & interviewing skills as part of job readiness training. Sheba has experienced computer teachers who are familiar with the special problems of English learners. When new immigrant women come to the U.S. from Bangladesh or Spanish speaking countries , for example, they are usually unprepared for the U.S. job market, no matter how educated they maybe. In Sheba classes, these students will focus more on learning job search, resume writing and interviewing skills, while less educated will learn to improve basic English communications. We aim to enrolled 26 women per trimester during this program year October 15th 2010 to September 30th 2011
